Being that human being
How would you like to cook something that no one wants to eat? Or perhaps, buy that vehicle you always wanted but no one wants to travel in. Yet, to be more dramatic, that fantastic song that you composed and sang which no one wants to even get close to listen to. Going further, no human being would want to be in a relationship that neither of them (If two) nor anyone around wants to be a part of.
Perhaps that is dramatized enough to drive my point. The point is, you do things, anticipating and expecting the people around you to be comfortable with. People around you to accept you with what you are doing, thus you build that eco system. In short, for your loved ones and acquaintances to have a reason to be around you, NOT JUST physically but wholeheartedly where the minds congrue. Your thoughts are accepted and valued by that community around you.
A legacy in the making
The community around you can be that of a few or large number. That is a different notion or outcome and is not the focal point. The core of this note is in establishing and understanding that we as human beings create that community around us. In that context, as in the first para, it’s clear and acceptable that a larger majority will want to make it as pleasant as possible for people around you. This creates that bind and the memories of you around them.
This essentially brings the concept of leaving a LEGACY. As to how your loved ones or community around you would remember you. For them to remember you when you are no more, you need to live that life. It’s not something that you can create where when you are no more, things would be positive. It’s the memories that you’ve helped them create when you are around that blossoms into the larger than life Legacy when you are no more.
The story of Alfred Nobel
The story of Alfred Nobel is a classic case. Many in the younger audience, to say the least might not even know that he was the innovator/creator of many explosives and patented the same. He held the patent for dynamite, which at one stage was the core product used for larger than life destructions, be it at war or to create carnage otherwise. Stories linger that Alfred Nobel once spotted in the newspaper where they announced his death with a caption on the lines of ‘king of death finally is no more’. Obviously, this turned out to be a mistaken identity, but it is said to have driven that powerful negative legacy that he might be leaving today when he is no more. Alfred Nobel wanted to change this. Whether the story is accurate or not, the ultimate result was him today being known as the king of the Nobel Peace Prize, more than anything else. This to an extent that his legacy today lives completely in oblivion to his patents on dynamite and other explosives to a more positive, vibrant, acceptable and beneficial stance of being responsible for the Nobel Prize. Hailed and welcomed by all and sundry.
Taking a stance on who you are
Now that was possible due to what we believe in him having taken a ‘LEGACY STANCE’. A stance on how he would want to be remembered when he is no more. A stance that would make him feel good. A stance that he believed would be in the right direction to leave a positive feeling about him and his life.
This could be true for anyone of us. You need not have millions to create a stance. All what you need is to focus and create a positive stance of your life. It could be simply by being that person everyone likes to be around. That fun-loving person perhaps. Oh, that great eSports enthusiast. That personality who always shared his knowledge and thoughts for a greater benefit. Well, that personality who helped us around. Or any number of options to remember you, but in a positive way.
Passionate stance
The core of this article is to drive the point that we should strive to create that “Legacy Stance”. Try and think as to what your passion would be. Passion is an easier way to build your persona around and through that be a personality that others would love to be around. Its not about just being nice to people. But it is about them always being comfortable and appreciative of you being around them. Simply work through your passion and try and focus on how you would like to live a life around this passion where you could leave a positive legacy for people to eventually remember you. It may not be your passion but something using your position, wealth or other capabilities where you build that comfort factor around you. Those lasting memories of you around the community. Its just that “STANCE” that you take on how you would like to be remembered.
Leaving a Legacy Video
The take-home
- For others to remember you positively, you need to live a life that has touched the hearts and minds of those around you.
- To do so, you need to have a clear stance on how you would want to be remembered, as having lived.
So, take a legacy stance today. Life is a journey. Make that journey a worthwhile one for you and others around you.
